Steven Duane Pifer age 69, passed unexpectedly on January 5, 2019, while recovering from surgery with his daughter by his side in Boca Raton, FL.

He was born in Adrian, MI on December 30, 1949, to Ruth C. Stewlow (Davis) and Duane “Danny” Pifer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Katherine.

He is survived by his daughters, Channon Pifer (Joseph Leveque), granddaughter Jordyn and Kimberly Shields (Gregory), grandchildren Nolan, Ella, and Evan.

Steven graduated from Adrian Senior High School in 1968. In July of 1969, he married Keetha Warner. Later that same year, he joined the United States Navy serving as a Radio Operator on the USS Guadalupe.  He received many medals during his service, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device Honors. He was honorably discharged in 1973 and served in the Naval Reserve until 1975.  He was very proud to serve his country.

In 1970, Steve became the proud father to his daughter Channon.

Steven worked for 18 years at the Adrian Dominican Sisters, retiring in 2012. He also worked for 47 years at the University of Michigan Athletic Department Event staff, which included all home football and basketball games, as well as special events. He took pride in the fact that he never missed working a football game in his 47 years. Gate 4 at The Big House will certainly miss him!

Steven, an avid golfer, was actively involved in the Adrian Alumni Association Class of 1968 Reunion Committee, and was passionate about his pristine yard! To his grandchildren “Grandpa Pifer” gave them treats, loved to take them for rides in his golf cart, and go to baseball games. To his friends and family, he was a quiet man who had a big heart and would do anything to help you. To those that loved him, he was a dedicated companion and friend. To his daughters, he was a loving and supporting father. He adored his dog Snickers and enjoyed taking him for walks and giving him cookies.

The family would like to thank Michael Snyder, members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, The Women’s Auxiliary, Vicki Sental, and many others for their love and support during this time.
