John Findley Wallace II
April 7, 2026

John Findley Wallace II, age 91, of Fort Washington, Maryland, and Boynton Beach, FL, passed away on the evening of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, after a brief illness.
He was born to Clarence Jay Wallace and Rosamond Kitts Wallace in Boulder, CO. He was raised in Chicago, IL, and New Orleans, LA, alongside his loving sister and brother.
John attended Tulane University and then joined the Air Force, attending pilot training in Iceland. After returning to New Orleans following his military service, he married Elaine Mulloy and became stepfather to her two children, Anne and Robert.
He welcomed his daughter, Emi, while living in Virginia. While working as a civilian for the US Department of the Army, he attended Syracuse University, obtaining his Master's in Public Administration. He returned to the Washington D.C. area, where he continued his career of public service.
In 1976, he met Charlene Tumminello on a blind date at the Annapolis boat show. They married on Christmas Eve, and later made their home in Fort Washington, MD, on a property overlooking the Potomac River. Together, they had two children, John Wallace III and Kathryn Wallace. He welcomed many family and friends to his guest home over the years, where all enjoyed the beautiful view. He hosted many summer crab boils and Thanksgiving feasts featuring his fried turkey. After a successful civil service career spanning 5 presidential administrations, he retired in 1997 as the Chief Financial Officer of the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Sailing was John’s biggest passion. He and his family shared many wonderful memories and adventures aboard their sailboat, Puff. A die-hard Washington Redskins fan, John attended games at RFK Stadium and FedEx Field for over 40 years. A voracious reader and card player, he enjoyed meeting new people, making friends, and sharing a good story during cocktail hour.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Charlene, his three children, four grandchildren, and many dear family members and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
John always helped those who needed a hand.
Instead of flowers, please consider doing something to help others in your community.
