Memorial Service Ideas That Honor Life and Support Healing
At Sunshine Cremation, we understand that every family wants a meaningful way to honor their loved one. Memorial service ideas help families come together to remember, reflect, and support one another after a loss. When cremation is chosen, there are still many respectful and comforting service options available, and our role is to guide families through those choices with care and clarity.
Our memorial and viewing services are designed to meet families where they are emotionally and practically. Some families prefer something small and private, while others want a more traditional gathering that includes extended family and friends. We offer several service options so each family can choose what feels right for them and for the life being remembered.
Small Private Viewing or Service
For families seeking a quiet, intimate gathering, we offer a small viewing or service for up to 15 people. This option allows immediate family members to come together in a peaceful setting before cremation.
During this service, the decedent is placed on a viewing table. Our staff prepares the facial features with great care so loved ones can see a calm and dignified appearance. The body is covered with a blanket, with only the face visible. This provides a gentle opportunity for final goodbyes without the formality of a larger service.
Families often choose this option when they want privacy, simplicity, or a brief moment of reflection together before cremation takes place.
Large Viewing With Rental Casket
Sunshine Cremation also offers large viewings for families who prefer a more traditional experience. In this setting, the decedent is fully dressed, embalmed, and placed in a rental casket.
This type of service allows friends, extended family, and community members to attend and pay their respects in person. Large viewings are held at our funeral home and can be scheduled to allow guests to arrive throughout a designated time period.
Many families appreciate this option because it provides a familiar structure and allows people to show their support directly. A reception with food and beverages may be added afterward, giving guests time to connect and share memories.
Viewing Followed by A Funeral Service
For families who want a complete and structured gathering, we offer the option of a large viewing followed by a funeral service. The decedent remains in the rental casket, fully dressed and embalmed, for both portions.
This arrangement can take place at our funeral home or in a church chosen by the family. The viewing portion allows guests to greet the family and pay respects, followed by a formal service that may include readings, music, and remarks.
For this type of service, the normal progression includes greeting guests for approximately thirty minutes, followed by a service lasting about forty-five minutes. After the service, families often host a reception, usually with food and drinks, that lasts around thirty minutes or longer, depending on their wishes.
Memorial Service After Cremation
One of the most flexible options we offer is a memorial service held after cremation. This service does not involve the body being present and is often referred to as a celebration of life.
Families choose this option for many reasons, including scheduling flexibility and location preferences. At Sunshine Cremation, we help families plan memorial services at a church, our funeral home, or a location that holds personal meaning. This may include a park, beach, private home, or restaurant.
Memorial service ideas in this category often focus on shared memories, photographs, music, and personal reflections. These gatherings can feel formal or relaxed, depending on what the family prefers. Because cremation has already taken place, services can be scheduled days or weeks later, making it easier for out-of-town guests to attend.

Receptions and Gatherings After the Service
With the exception of the small private viewing, all of our service options may be combined with a reception. Food and beverages give people time to connect after the service in a more informal setting.
Receptions allow families and guests to share stories, offer comfort, and spend time together outside the structure of the service itself. Many families find this portion especially meaningful, as it creates space for conversation and support.
The Importance of an Officiant
For any service we provide, we strongly recommend having a clergy member officiate. While spiritual guidance may be part of the service, an experienced officiant also serves an important practical role.
Clergy help guide the flow of the service, act as a master of ceremonies, and keep everything organized and on schedule. This support allows families to focus on their loved ones and their guests, rather than the details of timing and transitions.
Scattering of Cremated Remains
A memorial service can also be combined with the scattering of cremated remains. At Sunshine Cremation, we help families plan this step in a respectful and meaningful way.
Scattering may take place on land or in the water, depending on the family’s wishes. Some families choose to include this as part of the memorial service itself, while others prefer a separate moment afterward. This option can provide a sense of closure and peace for those attending.
Our Commitment to Families
At Sunshine Cremation, our goal is to provide clear guidance, compassionate care, and meaningful memorial service ideas that honor each life. There is no single right way to say goodbye, and families should feel supported in choosing what feels best for them.
By offering a range of viewing and memorial services, we help families create respectful, organized gatherings centered on remembrance. Our team is here to walk alongside families every step of the way, ensuring each service reflects care, dignity, and thoughtfulness.
