Martha obituary picture

Martha was the first of her family to emigrate to the United States from Peru, establishing a foothold for a long and expansive lineage that continues to unfold in New Jersey, Florida, and beyond.

A beautician for her entire working life, she opened and managed a salon—the first in the family to institute her own business. In retirement, she continued styling hair in her home.

Fiercely independent and attentive to appearances, she took pride in maintaining herself, her home, and her family. She loved gardening in the sun and found joy in keeping busy with her hands.

She enjoyed watching novellas and courtroom shows. At night, she read or listened to the radio. She liked action movies, Charles Bronson, Celia Cruz, and Coca-Cola. She was a reliably excellent cook.

Martha was funny without trying, to anyone who knew her looks or leaned close to hear her whisper. She’ll be remembered for her firm guiding hand, her strong will, and for being a link to her family’s vibrant Peruvian heritage.

She is survived by her three children and five grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
